The U.S. State Department, the Foreign Service Institute, and the Defense Language Institute developed a number of foreign language courses to address the demands of US Diplomatic and Military personnel. The courses were designed to provide proficiency and effective communications skills for the student.

Some of the courses focus on traditional grammar and sentence structure intensive approaches to learning a foreign language. Other courses focus on fast conversational approaches which are aimed at practical scenarios. Whatever the format, the courses are expansive and unchallenged in their content.
